Meal Planning & Sales 9/18 – 9/24

There are some good basics on sale.  It’s clearly getting close to stocking up for winter time.  I like to live as if it could snow any moment and lock me away for 3 months and I’d still be fine.  Ha.

*note: these deals are for Denver and Northern Colorado in general.  Besides meat and dairy, most everything else is usually a national sale so check your own circular.
 

Safeway:

  • Clasico Pasta Sauce – $1.37/jar (whoa)
  • Milk – $1.99/gallon
  • Coke – Buy 2 get 2 (and get two free oreos?)
  • Betty Crocker Brownies – $1.48/box
  • Bumble Bee Tuna – 3/$4
  • Cheez Its – 3/$5

King Soopers:

  • Boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs – $1.99/lb
  • Angus Ground Round – $2.99/lb
  • Raspberries – 10/$10
  • Milk – $1.99/gallon
  • Winter squash – $.99/lb
  • Land o’ Lakes Butter – 2/$5

Sprouts:

  • Red Bell Peppers – 3/$1
  • Turkish Dried Apricots – $2.99/lb
  • Pork Tenderloin – $2.49/lb (SO cheap)
  • Boneless Tilapia – $5.99/lb

My Meal Plan:

  1. Grilled Pork Tenderloin — You better believe I’m going to stock up on these guys.  They’re tender, juicy, simple to prepare and come from pig.
  2. Angus Burgers — I love ground round, particularly if it’s angus.  It’s got more fat in it so flavor wise it can’t be beat.  I think I’ll do burgers with it but if it’s stew weather we might go that direction.
  3. Pan Fried Tilapia with Parsley and Capers — I pulled this guy from my head a few weeks ago.  I started off with lightly floured tilapia and cooked it like I would scampi.  Then I did a little white wine, butter, caper and parsley sauce.  Maybe this time I’ll brighten it with some lemon and share the recipe.  Tre simple.

We’re getting back on the healthy bandwagon so I might be stretching for some of these recipes as we’ll be eating a grilled protein and basic veggie for a while.  Maybe I can finally write a post for swiss chard.
